So....
I had a photo shoot planned with
bluanne yesterday, but due to time and weather she and I decided to resched it for today. This proved both good and bad. Good in that the weather and light was nicer, bad in that the incident happened.
We'd shot her climbing around the rockfaces by the waterfall, and wandered up the creek a bit. There was a tall stump from a tree that had been cut, and I had her get up on it while I shot her. I was moving around the stump and started climbing down the embankment and WHAM...
I managed to lose my footing and did an uncontrolled slide/fall down the embankment. I was trying desperately to regain my footing and NOT go into the creek, but that failed when my foot went down a posthole created by a fallen tree that had embedded itself lengthwise into the bank. Once my foot was in that I snapped forward and went face first into the creek, catching myself with my left palm on the creekbed. I managed to hold my camera up so that it did not get totally submerged but it was badly splashed and looks like its dead.
I managed to drag myself free of the hole and stand up in the creek and collect my bearings and inventory damages.
So far it appears,
Physical
Right shin bruised and banged up badly
Left palm has a deep tissue bruise(I think, its really sore but there is nothing on the surface detailing why)
Left outer thigh muscle is sore(changed from the hip being sore...its definitely just that muscle)
Left Shoulder is strained and REALLY sore.
Tech
Cell phone is kaput. Have to go see my carrier and see if there's anything that can be done short of buying a new phone.
Camera....is bad. I yanked the battery right away, and let it dry. After about half an hour it appeared to be dried out, but the function menu kept popping up whenever I'd take a shot. So I left it to dry some more, but it appears to have given up the ghost now, and won't even trip the shutter. So, its off to Nikon for repair first thing in the AM.
The timing really could have been better, I have the Airshow to shoot this upcoming weekend and I KNOW I can't get it fixed before then. I was going to order a D200 come fall when I had time to learn its in's and out's better, but it looks like I need to be ordering one ASAP and hope it gets here before Friday. If not,
bulldog_ak has offered me the use of her D70 for the show...and THANK YOU! I really appreciate it.
