Busy weekend
Jul. 7th, 2008 06:09 pmThat was a heckofa busy weekend. Thursday
angie_di convinced me that we needed to go see the Eagle River 3rd of July fireworks. I had intended to go chase boretides and then work on photos, but an after hours work call killed the boretide run, and I figured why not just give up on photos for the day and go see fireworks. It was actually rather fun, saw a bunch of people there hanging out, and ended up less than 200 yards from where they were setting off fireworks, so we were essentially under them when they went off.
Friday I was going to meetup with an old AirForce friend and then go chase boretide(yes, I've lived here 13 years and not yet seen one) before heading to the valley to set off fireworks at
eidola's place in Houston. Due to a series of miscommunication I never did meetup with my friend, so we went out chasing boretide. Beluga Point was PACKED, but several of the later pullouts had decent views. I'd tried to see how Bird Point looked, but turns out its suboptimal for viewing, especially with tons of people there trying to see them, and a wedding party as well. I moved down to the first pullout on the flats before Girdwood, and saw it coming in the distance. The water swirled alot on the rocks in front of me but nothing...then I looked behind me up the Arm, and promptly bolted for the minivan because it had reformed directly behind me. The next pullout had a great view even though I almost missed it there, and the third wasn't bad. I gave up at that point because you can't see the tide from the road until well past Girdwood and we had things to do. I never did meet up with my friend for dinner after that, though we did hunt for her with no luck.
The fireworks show I did at
eidola's was awesome, except I hadn't planned on having 3 helpers...so my 2 hours of fireworks went in about 45 minutes. But i have to admit, it was cool seeing 7 canister rounds go up near simultaneously :-) We ended up heading home after instead of crashing there since it was so much earlier than I'd expected, and
angie_di had a meeting with the male lead in the play she's in the next morning.
Saturday we dragged out of bed and met her counterpart for an 1120 showing of Hancock(Decent movie, but needed to have about 30 minutes more to it) and then they wandered Barnes and Noble talking for awhile to get familiar with eachother. We headed off to lunch, then dropped him in Eagle River at his place.
angie_di wanted to stop at her parents since we were in Eagle River anyway so she could see her kitties, so we headed up there and tromped around her parents for a bit.
Sunday we headed out to the valley to
kokuten's weekend respite for a BBQ. It was fun, he'd bought the owner of the house a new TV for her birthday, and was showing it off to everyone. We ended up staying a bit longer than I'd planned..but all I was going to do was work on photos anyway, so I guess an hour's delay isn't so bad.
Whew! like I said, busy weekend.
